The MINIM­AL WAVE RE­LEASE PARTY

Minim­al Wave is a very speci­al label run by Veronica Vasic­ka in Brook­lyn, NY, known for dis­cover­ing ob­scure D.I.Y. electronics pione­ers from the 80s with a uni­que and power­ful an­alog sound. Many of the tracks she re­leases ex­is­ted only on tapes, pas­sed around by col­lec­tors in sec­re­cy, now only re­cent­ly un­earthed and re­mas­tered with love. In a cool turn of events, Veronica has teamed up with Peanut Butt­er Wolf, owner of the legen­da­ry hip-hop label Stones Throw, to re­lease two amaz­ing an­tholog­ies of this sound: “The Minim­al Wave Tapes Vol. 1”, and most re­cent­ly “The Minim­al Wave Tapes Vol. 2”. Peanut Butt­er Wolf is fly­ing in from LA to DJ al­ongside Veronica, & per­form a speci­al MW-inspired video-DJ set in which the video & audio scratch simul­taneous­ly. Theres also 3 all-analog live per­for­mances by art­ists from the label: Das Ding (joined by Mar­ti­al Can­terel on electronics), and two new groups, In­ner­gaze & Street­walk­er, with up­com­ing LPs on MW’s sub­label Citit­rax. Dance among pro­jec­tions, lig­hts & a lit­tle fog.. Get ready for a wild night!!

Legen­da­ry hip hop art­ist who first made his mark in the early 90s mak­ing beats for Chariz­ma, and later col­laborated w Q-bert, Kool Keith & other heavyweights. Pos­sib­ly my favorite re­lease on Minim­al Wave is Danny Bost­en AKA Das Ding’s ‘H.S.T.A.’ - power­ful, metal­lic, dark, funky proto-techno from the Net­herlands. Danny has other great re­leases on the label as well, most re­cent­ly the Schedelvret­er 10” and the V/A Tear Apart Tapes 7”, tracks from his 80s cas­sette label. In an ex­cit­ing col­labora­tion, Mar­ti­al Can­terel (of Xeno & Oak­land­er) is join­ing him on electronics, creat­ing every­th­ing from scratch in 100% an­alog fash­ion. (!!!)

Raw, freaky & psyc­hedelic syn­thwavey/­house duo from Brook­lyn, made up of Aurora H (also doing visu­als for the even­ing) and Steve Summ­ers (Clone, L.I.E.S., etc). They have a self-released LP, a 12” on 100% Silk, and an up­com­ing LP on Citit­rax, which they’ll be per­form­ing live in its en­tirety for this set… #newtrax!

Aggres­sive & sexu­al stripped-down tech­no/­house/in­dustri­al from Elon Katz of White Car, and Beau Wanz­er of Mutant Beat Dance (a duo with Traxx). Their acid track Ooze was re­leased on Cat­holic Tapes, and com­ing soon is their much anti­cipated debut LP on Citit­rax, re­cor­ded en­tire­ly live with no over­dubs, using primari­ly TR-808, 707, SH-101 & Elon’s haunt­ing vocaliza­tions. Live per­for­mance on the same gear, all the way from Chicago & LA.
