An-i is the uncompromising solo project of Berlin-based producer and DJ Douglas Lee, formerly known as Lee Douglas. Emerging from New York City’s leftfield disco scene in the late ’90s, Lee became known for his boundary-pushing approach to dance music—reviving forgotten sounds and fusing punk energy with raw electronics. His An-i alias, launched through Veronica Vasicka’s Minimal Wave/Cititrax label, explores a chaotic and visceral intersection of techno, EBM, noise, and industrial, often described as a love affair between machines and human error.
With a career spanning over two decades, Lee has worked alongside influential figures like Ron Morelli (L.I.E.S.) and has released numerous projects, collaborations, and solo works that defy categorization. His live performances—improvised and hardware-driven—channel screeching synths, guttural vocals, and pounding rhythms into a singular sonic assault. An-i has performed at revered institutions such as Berlin Atonal, Berghain, Dekmantel, Tresor, and Arma 17.
Most recently, An-i contributed a remix of a newly unearthed track by In Trance 95, titled “The Move”, slated for release in July 2025. With an anything-goes ethos dictated more by machine instinct than human intention, An-i continues to expand the limits of electronic music.
